INDICATIONS

Oviguard is used for vaccination of healthy sheep and goats as an aid in preventing pneumonic pasteurellosis caused by Mannheimia haemolytica and pulpy kidney caused by Clostridium perfringens type D. Oviguard is safe for use in pregnant animals and maternal antibodies are transferred to newborns through the intake of immune colostrum within 48 hours after birth.

COMPOSITION

Alum-precipitated suspensions of M. haemolytica (leukotoxin) with inactivated C. perfringens type D (epsilon toxoid) for use in sheep and goats.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Store in a refrigerator between 2 °C and 8 °C.
  • Do not freeze.
  • Avoid exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight during vaccination.
  • Do not use Oviguard after the expiry date printed on the container.

WARNINGS

  • Withdrawal period: Animals should not be slaughtered for human consumption within 21 days of vaccination.
  • Vaccinate healthy animals only.
  • Use the entire contents of the vial once opened.
  • Destroy any unused vaccine and dispose of all the empty vaccine containers and disposable equipment after use in accordance with National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 59 of 2008).
  • KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN, UNINFORMED PERSONS AND ANIMALS.
  • Although this vaccine has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions, failure thereof may ensue as a result of a wide range of reasons. If this is suspected, seek veterinary advice and notify the registration holder.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE – USE ONLY AS DIRECTED

Shake gently and thoroughly by end over end mixing before and during use.

Use sterile needles and syringes only. Do not use chemical sterilisation as traces of disinfectant may negatively affect the vaccine.

Do not mix Oviguard with any other vaccines or substances.

DOSAGE

Administer a single 1 mℓ dose subcutaneously, in healthy sheep and goats, followed by a second dose 4 to 6 weeks later.

This booster vaccination is very important for the development of immunity.

PRESENTATION

Natural white, see-through, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) vials, containing 20 mℓ and 100 mℓ, closed with gold coloured aluminium combination seals.
