Indications:
For the active immunization of sheep as an aid in the control of lamb dysentery, pulpy kidney, tetanus, blackleg, clostridial metritis (malignant oedema of the uterus), bloodgut and infections caused by Clostridium novyi type B. caused by the above listed organisms. The vaccine may be used as an aid in the control of pneumonic pasteurellosis in sheep of all ages, minimum age of 3 weeks and in the control of systemic pasteurellosis in weaned fattening and breeding sheep. The vaccine may be used in pregnant ewes as an aid in the control of lamb dysentery, pulpy kidney, tetanus and pasteurellosis in their lambs provided that the lambs receive sufficient immune colostrum during the first 1-2 days of life.
Composition:
Combined 7 in 1 Clostridial plus Pasteurella vaccine. An opaque fluid vaccine containing toxoids of Clostridium perfringens types B, C and D, Clostridium septicum, Clostridium tetani, Clostridium novyi type B, formalin killed cells and toxoids of Clostridium chauvoei and iron-regulated antigens from the epidemiologically most important serotypes of Mannheimia (Pasteurella) haemolytica and Pasteurella trehalosi in buffered physiological saline absorbed onto aluminium hydroxide. The product is preserved with thiomersal.
Warnings:
- Withdrawal period: Nil
- The vaccine contains an adjuvant which may cause a small transient injection site reaction possibly lasting for up to 3-4 months after vaccination.
- In any group of animals a small number of individuals may fail to respond to vaccination as a result of immunological incompetence or for some other reason.
- Satisfactory immune responses will only be attained in healthy animals, thus it is important to avoid vaccination of animals which have intercurrent infection or metabolic disorders.
- As with most killed vaccines, significant levels of immunity cannot be expected until two weeks after the second dose of vaccine in the primary vaccination course.
- When vaccinating animals, stress should be avoided, particularly during later stages of pregnancy when there is a risk of inducing abortion or metabolic disorders.
- Keep away from children, uninformed persons and animals.
- Partly used packs should be destroyed at the end of a day’s operations as puncture of the rubber cap could cause contamination of the remaining contents.
- As with all vaccines, occasional hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
- Although this remedy has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions, failure thereof may ensue as a result of a wide range of reasons. If this is suspected, seek veterinary advice and notify the registration holder.
Directions For Use:
USE ONLY AS DIRECTED - SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE.
- Administration is by subcutaneous injection in the loose skin on the side of the upper neck, observing aseptic precautions.
- Syringes and needles should be from gamma irradiated packs or freshly sterilised by boiling for at least 20 minutes.
- No alcohol or other disinfectants should be used for sterilisation.
- The bottle containing this product is collapsible and it is not necessary to inject air into the bottle to enable vaccine to be withdrawn.
- It is, therefore, suitable for use with an automatic reloading injection syringe without using an air tube through the bottle cap.
- The instructions supplied with such syringes should be noted and care should be taken to ensure the delivery of the full dose, particularly with the final few doses from the bottle.
Dosage:
Sheep of all ages 2 ml per injection subcutaneous. The duration of passive immunity for lambs born from ewes vaccinated with Multivax P Plus is 4- 6 weeks. These lambs receive a first injection of 2 ml at 4-6 weeks of age, followed by a second injection of 2 ml 4-6 weeks later. All sheep from the age of 3 weeks onwards and not previously vaccinated with Multivax P Plus or born from ewes not vaccinated with Multivax P Plus before lambing season must receive two injections, each 2.0 ml, separated by an interval of 4-6 weeks. Thereafter they must receive booster injections at intervals of not more than 12 months. In adult breeding ewes these yearly booster injections should be given during the pre-lambing period, 4-6 weeks before lambing. A booster injection using a Pasteurella vaccine may be required 2-3 weeks prior to expected seasonal pasteurellosis outbreaks. Multivax P Plus should not be used in lambs less than 3 weeks of age.
