Porcilis® BPM is an aid in the prevention and control of progressive atrophic rhinitis and pneumonia caused by or associated with Bordetella bronchiseptica and toxigenic and non-toxigenic Pasteurella multocida and of respiratory disease caused by or associated with these organisms in association with Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infections in pigs. The vaccine is administered to pregnant sows during each pregnancy and/or to the newborn piglets.

Storage Instructions:

  • Store in the dark between 2ºC and 8ºC. Do not freeze.
  • Avoid prolonged or repetitive exposure to high ambient temperatures following withdrawal from the refrigerator prior to use.
  • Protect from direct sunlight.

Composition:

Porcilis® BPM is a whole cell killed bacterin-toxoid containing Bordetella bronchiseptica, Pasteurella multocida non toxigenic type A and toxigenic type D and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae. The aqueous vaccine contains an adjuvant for enhanced immunity. The preservatives include thiomersal and gentamycin.

Contents:

Each 1 ml contains Bordetella bronchiseptica OVC strain, porcine > 2x1010 cells, Pasteurella multocida type A strain 169 porcine > 1,0x1010 cells, Pasteurella multocida type D strain 12948 porcine, > 1,0x1010 cells and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae strain 11, porcine > 1,0 RP.

Warnings:

  • Do not freeze.
  • Destroy any unused vaccine, empty vaccine containers, needles, etc., for instance by burning after completion of the vaccination.
  • Do not store partially used containers for future use, and use the entire contents when opened.
  • Do not mix with other veterinary medicinal products, but may be used in conjunction with other Porcilis vaccines.
  • Shake well before use.
  • Accidental self-injection may lead to severe allergic reactions. Consult a physician.
  • Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals.
  • Although this vaccine has been extensively tested under a large variety of conditions, failure thereof may ensue as a result of a wide range of reasons. If this is suspected, seek veterinary advice and notify the registration holder.

Precautions:

  • Vaccinate healthy pigs only.
  • Observe aseptic precautions. Ensure that the vaccination equipment (needles, syringes etc.) are clean and sterile prior to use.
  • Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and sterile during vaccination.
  • Avoid intravenous vaccination.
  • It is good vaccination practice, when handling the vaccine, to avoid contact with the eyes, hands and clothing.

Directions for Use:

Use only as directed. Allow the vaccine to reach room temperature (20ºC to 25ºC) before use.

Vaccination Programme:

Sows and Gilts: Vaccinate at five (5) weeks and at two (2) weeks before the expected date of farrowing.  Vaccinate in subsequent pregnancies only once at 1 – 2 weeks before the expected date of farrowing.

Piglets: Vaccinate one dose at 5 – 7 days of age and again one dose at 23 – 28 days.

Alternative Vaccination Scheme for Piglets:
Vaccinate one dose at weaning and again one dose three weeks later.

Boars: Vaccinate with one dose annually.

Dosage and Administration:

Administer by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection.

Sows and Gilts: 2 ml per dose.
Piglets: 1 ml per dose.
Alternative vaccination of Piglets: 1 ml per dose.
Boars: 2 ml per dose.

Vaccination Reactions:

Incidental allergic reactions should be treated with epinephrine. Slight transient reactions at the site of injection may occur.

Withdrawal Period:

21 days.

Presentation:

Polyethylene vials containing 50 ml (or 100 ml) vaccine.
