The program can be used with or without a scanner.
Data can be stored on both a remote computer and a central database via the internet through replicating your GMPBasic ™ program data to the central database server.
Access to the data is password protected.
The owner and farm details have to be registered before the program becomes functional.
The program can be used both offline and online.
Working online via the internet, the data is stored on the central database.
The supplier as well as the buyer details can be kept on record. If the person selling his animals, dispatches them via the internet, a reference number will be obtained. With this reference number the buyer can import the relevant animal’s histories into his own GMP Basic ™ program. Each animal therefore comes with its passport.
Transport forms can be printed
It is a multi-species program and it can accommodate ostriches, cattle, sheep, goats and pigs.
Under general animal information, other identification methods such as branding, tattooing, microchips and other ear tags can be linked to the unique number on the Intervet ID Tag.
In combination with DNA, it assists in proof of ownership. The DNA library number can be linked to the unique Intervet ID Tag number.
Wool fibre thickness can be stored and will assist in selection and grouping for shearing.
If the same treatment is applied to a group of animals, the group of animals can be selected and the treatment only needs to be typed in once. The system will automatically pull the treatment through to each individual animal’s record.
There is a drop-down list of products. Other products can be typed in.
Notifiable and erosion diseases can be kept on record and will assist with biosecurity and disease surveillance. A veterinary registration number is required to capture the data.
Certain scales can be linked to the computer and when the animal is identified, the weight will automatically pulled into the system. Currently the RUDD 700 scale is functional with the program and additional work is being done for other scales. Typing errors are minimised and potentially eliminated!
Average daily gains are automatically calculated if more than one weight is entered.

FAMACHA scores can be kept on record and animals that need to be treated on a regular basis can be identified and culled. This is very helpful as worm resistance has been found to be genetically heritable.
Reproduction data can be kept on record, including mating dates and pregnancy diagnosis results. Expected birth date is automatically calculated for that species if a mating date is captured. Reminders can be kept of expected birth dates.
The animal’s status can be changed. If an animal is dispatched, the system will automatically change the status to closed. No alterations or new additions can be done to that particular record. If an animal dies, the status can be changed accordingly and the record will be closed.
This system is the first step to traceability in South Africa and promotes consumer confidence.
Remember that the animal and its data can be DISPATCHED electronically via the Software through use of an INTERNET connection.
